Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office March 3 CITIZEN ASSIST: Caller on Bench Drive, Winthrop, asked for assistance because she had locked her keys in the car, which was still running, and her baby and cell phone were inside. March 4 CIVIL MATTER: Caller on Highway 20, Twisp, reported that a van drove across the grass at that location and left marks in the yard. March 5 BURGLARY: A burglary was reported on Country Road, Mazama. Cash was taken. VEHICLE PROWL: Caller reported that a radio had been taken from equipment on Finley Canyon Road, and that the thief had also tried to take a radio from another piece of equipment. CITIZEN DISPUTE: Caller on Highway 20, Twisp, reported that a former employee who lives next door owns a horse that came onto the caller’s property. The horse’s owner came to get the horse although they had been told not to return to the caller’s property. TRAFFIC HAZARD: Rocks were reported in the roadway on Highway 20 near Rising Eagle Road. Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office May 11 VEHICLE PROWL: It was reported that a window had been broken in a vehicle parked near the Blue Lake trailhead on Highway 20 west of Washington Pass. May 12 DOMESTIC ISSUE: Caller in Twisp reported that their son was being belligerent and threatening. SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY: Caller said they heard that mushroom pickers were robbing people at gunpoint but actually had not talked to any victims and was only “hearing things” about it. Okanogan County District Court Nicholas Joseph McCants, 22, of Twisp, pleaded guilty to Reckless Driving and first-degree Negligent Driving. He was sentenced to 364 days with 357 suspended and 90 days with 90 suspended. He was also fined a total of $1,658. WARRANT ARREST: A warrant arrest was made on East Methow Valley Highway, Twisp. BURGLARY: A storage shed on Lower Beaver Creek Road, Twisp, was broken into and gasoline taken. DOMESTIC DISPUTE: Caller on South Methow Street, Twisp, reported that their nephew, who has medical issues, destroyed several items in a residence. ILLEGAL BURNING: Caller on West Second Avenue, Twisp, reported smelling smoke in the area, and thought it might be from a residence nearby. June 23 ACCIDENT: A non-injury accident was reported on Patterson Lake Road, Winthrop. ASSAULT: Caller on East Chewuch Road, Winthrop, reported that they woke up at about 1 a.m. to find a cord wrapped around their neck and that they were bleeding from a head wound. Okanogan County Superior Court The court modified the judgment and sentence for Zane Giesen, 25, of Twisp. The court found that good cause exists to allow the defendant to have contact with minor males as long as those minor males are in the presence of an adult. Giesen was charged with two counts of second-degree Rape of a Child in 2012. The court found probable cause to charge Lee Roy Bristol, 48, of Twisp, with failure to register as a Sex Offender or Kidnapping Offender. Bail was set at $10,000. The court found probable cause to charge Christopher Becket Burwell, 67, of Winthrop, with Attempting to Elude Pursuing Police, Driving Under the Influence, Hit and Run Unattended Vehicle, and No Valid Operator’s License. He was released on personal recognizance. The court found probable cause to charge Derek James Bell, 34, of Winthrop, with two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Alteration of Identification Marks and Use of Drug Paraphernalia. Bail was set at $15,000. Decrees of dissolution Walter Scott Schlotzhauer, Twisp, filed to dissolve his marriage with Christine Elisabeth Schlotzhauer. Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office July 16 CIVIL MATTER: Caller on Libby Creek Road, Carlton, reported an ongoing property line dispute with a neighbor who keeps coming onto the caller’s property without permission. July 17 NOISE COMPLAINT: Caller on West Buttermilk Creek Road, Twisp, reported a party with lots of loud music and yelling, and possibly as many as 150 people involved. TRAFFIC HAZARD: An injured or dead deer was reported on Lost River Road, Mazama. ANIMAL PROBLEM: A stray dog was reported on Libby Creek Road, Carlton. ACCIDENT: A non-injury, one-vehicle accident was reported at Twisp-Winthrop Eastside Road and Balky Hill Road. July 18 DUI: A person was taking into custody for DUI on Highway 20, Winthrop. ASSAULT: A person was taken into custody on domestic violence charges on Libby Creek Road, Carlton. MALICIOUS MISCHIEF: A caretaker at a residence on Lower Beaver Creek Road, Twisp, reported that someone had tried to break into a maintenance shed. SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES: Caller on Mundy Road, Twisp, reported that a package that was supposed to have been delivered was missing; the parcel service confirmed that it had been delivered. WEAPONS OFFENSE: Caller on Poorman Creek Road, Twisp, reported that some people nearby were shooting off firearms and he believed they were intoxicated. MEDICAL ISSUE: It was reported that an 11-year-old boy shot himself in the foot with a revolver. He was taken to Three Rivers Hospital. CHECK ON PERSONAL WELFARE: Caller on West Chewuch Road, Winthrop, reported that a man was threatening to kill himself and owns a pistol. Aug. 20 THEFT: Caller on Highway 20, Twisp, reported that a five-gallon fuel container had been taken the previous evening, and another fuel container and mountain bike had been taken more recently. Okanogan County Superior Court The court found probable cause to charge Laura Sue Virginia Walker-Sifagaloa, 31, of Winthrop, with two counts of Possessing a Controlled Substance and Use of Drug Paraphernalia. Bail was set at $15,000. The court found probable cause to charge Mikeal Ryan Tomatich, 29, of Twisp, with first-degree Theft, Theft of a Firearm, and Possessing a Stolen Firearm. Bail was set at $15,000.00. Lee Roy Bristol, 39, of Twisp, pleaded guilty to Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. He was sentenced to four months and fined a total of $600.00. Okanogan County District Court Dustin David Blackburn, 37, of Twisp, pleaded guilty to two counts of Displaying a Weapon and second-degree Criminal Trespassing. On count one, he was sentenced to 364 days with 360 suspended, and on count three he was sentenced to 90 days with 88 days suspended. He was fined a total of $1,216.00.  

Carlton teen injured in one-car accident

A Carlton teenager was injured late Thursday (Sept. 17) in a one-car accident on Highway 153 about 4 miles east of Twisp, the Washington State Patrol reported. Lily Anna Stoothoff, 16, was southbound at about 10:30 p.m. when she swerved to avoid a deer in the roadway and the pickup truck she was driving crossed the road, went into a ditch and rolled over, the State Patrol said. A spokesperson at Mid-Valley Hospital in Omak, where Stoothoff was transported after the accident, said Friday afternoon (Sept. 18) that Stoothoff had been released from the hospital. Stoothoff was alone in the vehicle and was wearing a seatbelt, the State Patrol reported.

THREATENING BEHAVIOR: Caller on Libby Creek Road, Carlton, reported that a man was intoxicated and threatening to cut stuff with a chainsaw. ACCIDENT: A non-injury accident was reported on Twisp-Winthrop Eastside Road. A driver struck a deer. DOMESTIC ISSUE: Caller on Autumn Lane, Twisp, reported that they were involved in a domestic argument and a shoving match ensued, and children were present. Sept. 22 SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY: A deputy reported that a vehicle appeared to be trying to elude the officer on Twisp Airport Road, but no crime was evident. Sept. 24 CHECK ON WELFARE: Caller asked that officers check on a potentially suicidal person on Twisp-Winthrop Eastside Road. Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office Oct. 19 TRESPASSING: Caller on Torer Creek Road, Twisp, noted that on Saturday hunters went across their property, and on Sunday hunters went through a neighbor’s property on the way to state land, and then later hunters on horseback went through. Oct. 20 EXTRA PATROLS REQUESTED: Extra patrols were requested on Horizon Flats Road, Winthrop, where a drug bust had taken place earlier and people seemed to be coming to that location during the night.
